The combination of tracking disruptor bonus, a nice fitting layout allowing flexible fits, not to mention the large dronebay, makes the Arby an ideal ship for all-around buisness.
The only things a (properly fitted) Arby struggles with in PvP are missileboats and, arguably, other droneships (depends how good each pilot is in the drone-vs-drone encounter). With the track disruptor bonus you can fly under the guns fairly easily against cruisers and larger ships, and the disruptor bonus makes it pretty much impossible for frigs to pop your drones as well.
In PvE you can fly the Arby like you would a Dominix. Fit for a hefty tank and use drones as your main DPS. If you try to fit turrets/launcher on the Arby to add in DPS ontop of your drones you sacrifice some tank, and being a Tier 1 cruiser it doesn't have much tank to go on.
Also, thanks to the large dronebay, you can keep a flight of ECM drones and use them as chaff as well if things go bad. Nothing saves the day more than throwing 5 x ECM drones in the face of whoever is scrambling you, then spam your warp button : ) Sure, drones are lost, but at least your ship is whole :)
Summarized:
The droneboats (arby/vexor) allows you to do both PvE and PvP, and do them both fairly well (depending of course on your skills). Other cruisers have a tendency to be either tank or gank type cruisers. Thorax is a prime example of a ship that is great in PvP, but not so great in PvE.
At the end of the day though, it's all down to preference and playstyle, since every ship in the game has pro's and con's which can be applied to almost any situation you put them in. It will be up to you to figure out which suits your needs.
I played EVE since early -04 and I still haven't settled on one ship that I fly above anything else. I love variation too much, and EVE really offers that :) But I will admit that Arbitrator is hands down one of the most fun (not to mention cheap) ships to fly. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |
